Having made changes and not used while inside, they may have unrealistic expectations of re-entry. Their families and significant others may be just as unprepared for the reality of life together.

RELIEF that the family feels when a loved one is taken off the streets, out of immediate danger.
RESURRECTION of the inmate/addict in the family's eyes as they visit their loved one and see the changes that have occurred in the structured environment.
REALITY sinks in when the loved one returns home and still makes mistakes, has the same personality, faces financial frustration, etc.
RENOVATION is a phase of acceptance and behavior modification when the family learns more effective communication methods and compromising techniques.
